Richard "Dick" Hooper
Age 79 of Wilmington, passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, with his loving family at his side.
Born October 11, 1932 in Joliet, Dick was a son of the late James and Loretta Moran-Hooper. He was raised and educated in Wilmington; honorably served in the United States Air Force, and received his Masters degree from Illinois State University. On April 8, 1961, Dick married JoAnn VanDuyne in St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, and together they made their home in Wilmington. Dick was a teacher at Joliet West High School and after his retirement worked at Whitmore's Ace Hardware in Wilmington. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and also served as a Wilmington Alderman for the 4th ward.
Survivors include his wife: Joann; two daughters: Gina (Randy) McDannold of Bloomington and Jamie Hooper of Wilmington; three grandchildren: Erin McDannold, Ryan McDannold and Corey Hooper and one brother: David (Denise) Hooper of Joliet.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: James Hooper, Jr.
A private family burial with full military honors was held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Reverend Steve Bondi from St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington officiated.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Dick's memory to a charity of the donor's choosing.
